Once a landmark for Los Nopales (Gilbert Ronstadt's estate on the North side of Prince Road between Tucson Boulevard and Campbell), this was a giant of a cottonwood — a tree often found near river beds and other water sources. Standing clear, its grandeur was lit from dusk to dawn, the desert sun illuminating its silverbacked leaves in the summer, or as in this watercolor, its beautiful golden leaves in fall. A corner of the back of the main house can also be seen.
