Gilbert painted this watercolor of a corner in our front yard. Low white plaster walls capped with adobe are commonplace to separate the desert from the domesticated yard... as well as to keep desert creatures (such as snakes) from the front door!
The palo verde doesn't bloom every year — it depends on the rainfall — but in this painting you can see its delicate yellow blossoms.
